“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”Mark 16:15 ESV
Have you ever picked a fluffy dandelion out of the ground, and then made a wish as you blow the seeds everywhere? I hope you have, because it is so much fun! I still pick dandelions and blow the seeds everywhere (don’t tell my husband because he sure hates weeds 😉). Just that tiny little breath making the seeds scatter, allows new dandelions to grow.
This has been making me think of what it’s like to be someone totally in love with Jesus. To love the Lord, is to share Him with others. It’s our privilege to share what He has redeemed us from, and what He is doing in our lives currently. He is an amazing God and we are never in a season of life where we have nothing to share with others about His goodness – that’s a fact.
I have always struggled to have the boldness to share my faith with people. I have gotten to a place in life where I am not ashamed at all though. Instead, it’s because I am afraid of making people feel uncomfortable, in turn making me feel uncomfortable. I’m going to be honest, that is pretty selfish of me and I know it.
Small seeds spread.
By sharing what God is doing in our lives, even small things, can encourage others to do the same. Just like dandelions, it just takes a small moment of boldness (or a breath) to spread wildly.
I do want to address the messy side of this “spreading” though because so many people have been so deeply hurt by the church in some way in relation to this – it breaks my heart. We have a responsibility to communicate the gospel and our faith with gentleness and respectfulness. 1 Peter 3:15 says
“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”1 Peter 3:15 ESV
Obedience is key here. We need to be obedient to the Holy Spirit when we are asked to share something. Only He can communicate it well, and only He knows when it can be received the way it needs to be. We cannot do this on our own. I pray you really hear and understand that because it is so important. It isn’t at all about us receiving glory and recognition. It is ALL about obedience to God.
Sometimes conversations like this can really stress us out, and make us feel so much pressure. That isn’t the way it is supposed to be though. It doesn’t begin or end with us my friends. God is so much bigger than we can imagine, and He wants to use our stories to inspire others and draw them closer to Him. This is about salvation – eternity in Heaven. That’s a big deal, and it is SO worth the uncomfortableness of the moment.
I created a sterling silver dandelion necklace as a reminder for us to not be afraid to share our God-stories with others. I created it to remind us to step out in boldness when God asks for our obedience. If you would like to check it out visit the store.
